Upon entering Onaga, Kansas, there was plenty of farmland and the railroad tracks. Onaga was founded in 1877 by the Vermillion River and situated by the Kansas Central Railroad. Onaga is in northeast Kansas set in the rolling hills. The surrounding countryside is stunningly beautiful. Preston posted a wonderful close-up view of the scene above: http://surfaceandsurfacephotography.com/2008/03/29/onaga-kansas-a-beautiful-spring-day/

The town’s newspaper is the Onaga Herald and it looks as if the business has a very sweet mascot and pet dog.

Onaga is a small town with neat, well-kept homes and a hospital surrounding a busy downtown. The townspeople were friendly and the town was a nice place to visit. When I was snapping photos, school had let out. The children from the nearby school were flowing into downtown to go to the library. One boy smiled at me inside the library door as I snapped the shutter.

At the edge of town, down hill, are the old grain elevators. Onaga has a very interesting and beautiful historical building. I’ll post a photo or two of it next.
