Every Picture Tells A Story

Every Picture Tells A Story

There is something about being in the wide-open prairies and hills of Kansas. Especially in the early spring when the trees have barely begun budding and the fields are controlled burned. It is like another world and hard to capture what it truly looks and feels like by camera. In the middle of this vast expanse of countryside with no other humans, no other vehicles, no power poles, and all is naturally rugged, with only the birds and wildlife, one feels the enormous universe about them.

Preston and I reveal stories through our photographs and without too many words from us. Photography is visual storytelling. When we go out on photo shoots, we creatively capture hundreds and hundreds of shots and spend up to a day photographing. Out of our batch of photos from a day’s shoot, only a selected few make it for show and tell. Our photography isn’t about point and shoot. Our photography is about what we feel with the camera and providing a view of a small part of the universe, which is Kansas, that we capture in a moment in time.

We’ve been out in the countryside photographing when our truck decided to not start. Twice. We’re lucky in that we have someone whom we’ve known for years who owns a vehicle body and repair shop. He is a master mechanic and he comes and gets us out of our fixes even in the middle of nowhere. The pictures above were taken on a rutted, un-maintained, dirt road. Right before we discovered the truck wouldn’t start. After our truck was fixed, the battery this time and the alternator before, we were right back out there capturing photographs. Because we love photography and the magic and wonder of it all when we are out shooting.

There is way more than just what we capture in photographic images which tell their own stories. It is our stories layered within it, all that is many times not expressed by words with the photos. Our stories are what we treasure and carry within our heart memories. What I love about our photography is that we capture our journey and we present it here on our photoblog. We can look back to where we’ve been and what we experienced. Preston and I are a work in progress with our photography as we learn, experience, feel, and grow… and it is wonderful, indeed. This is what we convey in all the photographs we publish on our photoblog. Every picture tells a story…
