Surface & Surface Photography

Cowboy Way Ranch and Vacation, located near Westmoreland, Kansas has started a program where folks can experience the Prairie Life. On this occasion, Anna and I joined them for the Prairie Burn Adventure.

This first scene is the entrance to the property where we parked our truck.

The folks welcomed us as if we were family. We were greeted with friendly smiles and handshakes.  From the parking lot, we boarded the Prairie Wagon and went on a journey to the campground.  We passed the main house with railings created from branches.  A natural spring, in front of the home, was adorned with rose quartz and flint rocks collected from the surrounding hills.

I took this picture on the ranch because I just love these old trucks. I thought the setting looked rustic as well.

At the campground we were treated with a meal of Mulligan Stew. We were given welcome gifts of bandannas and matches. Introductions were made and small stories exchanged. We were asked if we would like to start some of the fires, as they explained the fields which were to be burned. They gave us options such as what positions we would like to take when photographing. This was a photographer’s dream come true for us.
