The hawk was just sitting in the field when Anna spotted him. “Stop.” she said. I stopped the truck and Anna jumped out. Anna was trying to adjust her camera while approaching the hawk. Never have we been able to get so close to one, I wondered what the heck? Then the hawk lifted just a bit, enough to expose its prey. That was when I jumped out of the truck with my camera.

Anna was still adjusting her camera and taking a few shots when I started clicking. We both had our cameras set to shoot in the raw instead of jpeg, I fortunately had mine set on a more of automatic setting. I wasn’t thinking. I should have switched my camera to jpeg and to the superfast shutter clicker thing. Anyways I did capture the hawk to some detail - all of Anna’s blurred. In all respects, these should be her pictures. She spotted the hawk and was out snapping the pictures, but the bird flew pretty fast for carrying a snake in its talons.

As the hawk flew away, it looked a bit like a dragon with a long tail.

Wow, great action. I hate it when I have to change settings on my camera and miss a shot! My sympathies to Anna!
Wow! Amazing captures! Hawks are so fast, even when carrying their prey.
And as Bo said, my sympathies to Anna. I know what that’s like to miss a shot because you have to switch settings.
Thanks for the sympathies Bo and Robin. Even though I was dismayed my shots didn’t come out, I was very glad there were two of us shooting. If one doesn’t get the shot, well, maybe the other will get it. It was a Spectacular experience Preston and I shared together. The hawk squawked too. It wasn’t too pleased with us right behind it acting all weird. LOL The hawk seemed as if it were saying, “Stay back! My snake!” By the way, that last photo with that hawk looking like a dragon, looking at the photograph, it appears that the photographer (Preston) was flying behind the hawk! I mean, look at the road and fence posts down there! That, my dear Preston, is a great capture!!!!
Hugs & kisses to my photographer buddy….
Anna
Anna and I are always at the same place taking pictures. Anna uses a wide angle and a macro for the most part. I on the other hand prefer using a telescopic lens and my cam corder. It is always amazing how we were at the same place but our pictures are different. As a rule, the one who locates a super shot, gets to have it.
Hmmm… now about those hugs and kisses, I better go and collect.
Thanks for all your comments, we sure do enjoy them.
Preston
Great and fantastic!
