Power Tour 2008 - Wamego, KS

What a lucky day it was for Anna and I. Power Tour 2008 rolled right past us and we had all our camera gear. We really enjoyed watching all the different cars go by. All the cars were in great shape and all the owners were real proud. Over the next few days we will put up some of the pictures featured in our videos. Wow, we had a lot of fun.

My husband just did the Power Tour (he is now officially a “Long Hauler”), so I’ve been scouring the internet for Power Tour photos, and that’s how I came across your site. I love the videos that you’ve set to music! And now I find myself looking at the other beautiful photos you have posted here, and I’ve already been moved to tears by some of them. Your photos are truly beautiful, and looking at them is making my “inner photographer” cry “Let me out!” LOL I LOVE taking photos, but feel like I could really benefit from taking photography classes. Unfortunately, the only class I’ve found locally is not at a convenient time or place for me to take it. Can you suggest any books or other media that I could use as a starting point? I would appreciate any info you can give me. I really love your photos and admire your talent and skill as a photographer. Now to continue looking at the rest of your photos… :-)

Stephanie pass our congratulations to your husband on becomming a “Long Hauler”. We were pretty amazed at all the cars and very appreciative of the show they put on. We saw several cars sporting chevron type of displays of Power Tours they have been through in the past. Wow!!!

I’ve a secret to tell you Stephanie, I’m not a photographer. I’ve never taken a class and have just thumbed through a few books. Just like you I just enjoy taking pictures. I started by taking pictures of dogs, about 2 years ago, at a local humane society so they could use the pictures to advertise their dogs. I had an inexpensive digital camera. Folks started liking some of my photos so I tried harder to make even better photos.

Another thing I’m not is a story teller, but I love to tell stories. I mispell words and my grammar is awful. English instructors tremble in their shoes when they read my papers. They don’t have enough red ink in their pens to mark my paper up.

Thus Surfaceandsurfacephotography. Anna, my wife, is a lot like me. However she is the better of the two in photography. In January this year we purchased two nice cameras and opened this blog. What you see is the result of two folks whom have never been to a photo class. Just like the English instructor, a professional photographer could explain our many faults, We just do it no matter what. We both take pictures and tell stories in a way we understand and hope others may understand and appreciate as well.

The best classes I can think of is a wheat field, a beach with waves washing ashore, a hotrod pulled over by a sheriff, when you actually see an end of a rainbow touching the ground, the anxious look of a child over a crowd of soldiers looking for his dad or mom, a reflection of a young couple in the jewelery store window as they peer in on a wedding ring, and your are armed with a camera and you capture the shot. When you download those pictures, your mind will take over and your heart will lead the way from there.

Thank you so much for such a beautiful response. Listen to your inner photographer.

Thank you for your reply. I have a Kodak EasyShare DX7590 digital camera. When I was researching digital cameras on the web, I decided on that one because it has more features and I thought I would be able to use it if I learned how to do more serious photography than just taking “snapshots”. (I also liked the fact that the Kodak EasyShare printer laminates the photos so they hold up better and the colors last longer.) I love taking pics of our grandchildren, and would LOVE to just take off on a trip through the small towns in Texas and take photos of the land, old run-down barns, houses, cattle, wildflowers, etc., but that hasn’t happened yet. *heavy sigh* LOL When it comes to things like F-stop, shutter priority, aperture priority, ISO, flash compensation, etc., I need to learn what all that means and how to use them to take better pictures. That’s why I feel that I could benefit from a course in the basics of photography as well as specifically digital photography. (I don’t feel the need to have a darkroom and develop film photos, I just want to know all I need to know about digital photography.) Also, I don’t know much about “post-processing” (?) where you enhance the photo using software. Other than using a red-eye correction feature, I haven’t done any “enhancing”. Sorry to have rambled on so long in your comment section. Perhaps it would be better if I emailed you? Thanks for listening. :-)
