We were out in the middle of Kansas near a little town called Burns when we couldn’t help but notice the stark, old grain elevator jutting up out of the prairie. Nothing else around it as far as buildings, a graveyard nearby, and it stood alone. With this photograph, I decided to add some texture and an old time feel. I merged a photo of weathered wood with it, and aged it. I thought it an interesting photographic perspective…

There is an old elevator similar to that one in a little town near here. The bottom part has now become an art and craft and antique shop.
Montucky, that would be an excellent idea to turn these old elevators and old schools, too, into craft and antique shops. One thing though, they would have to be converted to Green such as solar power and wind power.
The results are stunning!! I’ve not used textures much in my work–maybe I should explore the possibilities!
Hi Barbara. I’ve been exploring with textures and yet to learn much more. I do enjoy adding texture to a photo. Thank you!
I love the way you treated them. On a trip through Idaho some time ago I was looking for Grain Elevators and finally found some on a remote road. They are excellent shooting subjects.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful work.
Hi myphotoschout. I like grain elevators and silos, and shoot many photos of them. I have yet, though, have shot photos that stand out for me of these old structures. Experimentation of angles, I think, in future shot. And I do like adding texture to the photos. Thank you!
interesting shot and treatment, i like the old wood blended in
Hi Ankush, good to see you. Thank you!
