Sunflower & Bug
Posted by Anna Surface on July 4, 2009

The common sunflowers are starting to bloom alongside the country roads. The sunflower is the Kansas state flower. I discovered some type of a strange bug on a sunflower. The insect lifted up when I approached with the camera. The wind was blowing the flowers. With a macro lens, camera hand held, it was hard to get a sharp focus… but I tried. Out of the shots I had taken of the sunflower there were three I liked, so I’ll post them.

I like all three, but of course you already know that I enjoy insects on flowers! What can be more “Kansas” than Sunflowers!

What a strange looking creature!
They are all great shots, but for some reason I can’t explain, I like the second one best.

Nice sunny flower, not so sure about insects.

Hi Montucky, Robin, and Bo. Thanks for commenting and stopping by.
Bo, I’m not so sure about insects either… especially these strange looking bugs. This one had a long nose, proboscis.

Note: The strange bug is called an Assassin bug. Here’s a link to read all about it: http://www.hgtv.com/landscaping/assassin-bug/index.html?nl=HGG_v096_30
