Carnival View
Posted by Anna Surface on July 6, 2009

I hope everyone (USA) had an enjoyable and safe Fourth of July weekend. We went to a small town carnival and car show at the Wamego, Kansas city park. This is an annual event. There was more of a crowd around the beautiful classic cars instead of the carnival rides. The carnival wasn’t like it used to be where all the rides were filled with lines of people waiting. Many of the rides would sit empty for awhile and maybe one or two would take a spin. The tickets for per ride was $3.00! Preston and I bought two tickets to ride the Ferris Wheel. I don’t care to ride any rides, even the Ferris Wheel, but up we went, the only customers with our cameras in hand. I found it hard to concentrate while spinning backwards swinging way up high while trying to snap shots. I got photos of equipment, poles and bolts up close. One bolted pole was wrapped in Duct tape that I had taken a very good picture of… and I wonder what that held!

I was a good distance away when I took this shot. The weather was cloudy and overcast having rained and stormed the night before.

I noticed a good number of people, children too, going barefoot.

These two enjoyed this ride so much, they took it several times and they were the only cumstomers.

While in the Ferris Wheel, I took shots of the town, Wamego, Kansas. I slightly posterized the photo.
For another view of this scene, see Small Town Carnival at our other photoblog, Abstract Reflections. I’ll be posting digital photographic art of classic cars and carousel horses at Abstract Reflections for the next several weeks.

If I had seen duct tape on a ride, I’d have been screaming to get off. lol! You’re a brave woman, Anna.
Great shots. I really like the angle of the third one.

Hi Robin. I didn’t know about the duct tape until I saw the photo! Yikes! I think I will stay grounded for now on. LOL Thanks!

Great series of photographs, but the 1st one of the car is brilliantly framed.
